State of Agile Survey - Cincinnati Edition

Attention! The First Annual Cincy State of Agile Survey is Here!

Would you like to know how your company’s Agile adoption and practices compare to others in the greater metro Cincinnati area?

I know we would, and now is your chance!  AgileCincy is ready to measure the State of Agile here in the Cincinnati metro area so we can all see how our organizations stack up in this region and so AgileCincy as a whole can compare and contrast our region to the rest of the world.

But we can’t do this alone.

As you know, AgileCincy is run by volunteers. So the good folks at MAX Technical Training have offered to assist us in the gathering and reporting of this survey data.  As a survey recipient you will receive the survey results by email and automatically be entered to win a $100 gift card, courtesy of MAX and you agree to receive communications from MAX and AgileCincy. (You can unsubscribe at any time.)

They survey window has been extended to May 7, 2014, so act quickly before it finally closes!

Sincerely,

Your Agile Cincy leadership: Alan Bustamante, Peg Haustetter, Levent Gorur, Stephen Wagner, Steve Lyle, Don Miller And The Team At Max Technical Training

April Meeting: Scaling Agile While Sherpa's Are Throwing Rocks

Agile is moving out of the team room and into the boardroom. With executives catching onto the success of agile, how will this affect the teams that started it all? What foundational elements can we put in place before portfolio managers and PMO’s take over agile within in an organization?

In this session we will look at factors critical to successfully scaling agile across the enterprise, patterns that will endanger its success, and discuss how the SAFe frameworks fits.

Brian Watson has more than 18 years of experience in software development and 10 years practicing agile. He is currently a product and agile coach primarily focused on agile transformation coaching and teaching. Brian has supported enterprise clients across multiple industries including: government, insurance, utilities, consulting services, financial services and manufacturing. Previously Brian was a PMO and Director of Project Delivery for a consulting company. He has spoken at a number of conferences including: Better Software West, Cincinnati Day of Agile and Central Ohio PMI Professional Development Day. In addition to the Scrum Alliance, Brian is a member of PMI and IIBA. He has a Masters of Education from Purdue University. When not coaching, Brian enjoys golfing and drinking craft beer. Follow Brian on his blog at http://www.agilebdub.com and on Twitter at @agiledub.

March Meeting: One Scaling Practice You Should Implement Today

Once an established practice, the mid-range planning event for various reasons has all but died off in most companies.  The Scaled Agile Framwork (SAFe) which enables scaling agility across large, complex businesses, has re-established the event as a key practice.  Even if you're organization is not yet doing agile this practice will help you be more effective and deliver more value to your customers sooner.  This event will help improve alignment, communication, cross team coordination, identify dependencies, and build stronger teams.  Implementing this event may seem like a daunting task, but the return greatly outweighs the cost.  When you learn how to organize and execute mid-range planning you will dramatically increase your programs likelihood of success.

Dan is a scrum master and agile evangelist currently working for a major grocery retailer. He has practiced various forms of iterative and agile development, extreme programming practices and agile project management thru out his 20 year IT career. Over the last 5 years years he has stood up, coached and helped to improve several project teams some of which were headed for failure before agile. Dan is passionate about the agile craft, regularly participating in agile events in the community and has a desire to see companies succeed with agile at scale.
