Open Space w/ Diana Williams

Open Space format facilitated by Diana Williams

When: November 9, 2017  (Second Thursday) Networking: 5:30 - 6:00 pm Program: 6:00 - 7:30 pm

Abstract
For many, Open Space has been a daring and marvelous exploration of the vastness and the urgency of personal and organizational transformation. For others, it’s just an exceedingly effective, and efficient, meeting methodology.

Open Space is the only process that focuses on expanding time and space for the force of self-organisation to do its thing. Although one can't predict specific outcomes, it's always highly productive for whatever issue people want to attend to. Some of the inspiring side effects that are regularly noted are laughter, hard work which feels like play, surprising results and fascinating new questions.

If you are struggling with a problem, looking for innovative ways to motivate a team, or just want to learn from your peers - Open Space is for you!

August Meeting: Intro to Business Model Canvas

When: August 10, 2017  (Second Thursday) Networking: 5:30 - 6:00 pm Program: 6:00 - 7:30 pm

Globalization and the emergence of digital business have changed the playing field for everyone. New business models can now rapidly disrupt an entire industry by changing the way value is delivered to customers (Look how Apple’s iTunes strategy disrupted the music industry, for example). The Business Model Canvas, developed by Alex Osterwalder, is a tool that you can use to examine and rethink your company’s business model.

This presentation will help people learn, through both discussion and hands on exercises about the Business Model Canvas, and give them the ability to use these methods to describe and innovate on traditional business models.

Fred Hilkowitz is currently a principal at Optionality Consulting and will be joining the Founder Institute in the fall. He has held numerous product development leadership positions in companies from Fortune 500 to start-ups and has been recognized for his ability to work across both business and technical aspects of an organization. Prior to Optionality, Fred worked at Quest Diagnostics, where he led the transformation of their strategic software division to a full agile organization, utilizing continuous delivery practices and principles. Fred has spoken at numerous conferences on agile and project management topics.

July Meeting: Delivering Big Data Analytic projects using Agile development

When: July, 13 2017  (Second Thursday) Networking: 5:30 - 6:00 pm Program: 6:00 - 7:30 pm

Management of Big Data Analytic projects can be ambiguous. Analytical questions flow rapidly from customers of this platform and providing insights to those questions often inspires additional questions. This curiosity of data is amazing and continually growing, only adding to the challenge of managing these projects. The complications involved are multifaceted: many Big Data platforms do not have a well-defined process for acquiring new data; resources are often finite, or in conflict with other simultaneous requests; and analytic questions vary widely on their ‘time to market’ needs and cost of delay.

This presentation will outline one approach used to manage Big Data Analytic projects through Agile principles, given the evolving processes of an emerging technology, insight turnaround timelines, ever changing priority, and shared resources.
