February Meeting: Retrospectives - From boring & laborious to engaging, valuable, & fun.

In our perfect agile scrum world, a retrospective is a time for a team to reflect on how they

are doing and seek opportunities to improve. However, sometimes a retrospective becomes

a perfunctory meeting that the team endures to close out the sprint. Worse, a retrospective

can quickly degenerate to a state of blame and poor excuses. If this feels familiar to you

and your team, then join me as we relive the nightmare of a lack luster retrospective. Let’s

take your retrospective from boring and laborious to engaging, valuable, and [dare I say]

fun. Transform your team through the challenge and power of collaborative and interactive

problem solving. No longer will you simply traverse through the motions of your

retrospective, we will explore techniques to properly engage your team toward the spirit of

Kaizen.

• The Retrospective Framework: Guided by the spirit of collaboration and kaizen
• Activities and games: All work and no play makes for a dull retro

Rita Emmons has over 15 years of experience, has worked on a myriad of projects as a Business Analyst and Quality Analyst in a broad range of industries including aviation, insurance, healthcare, and retail. Transitioning into a Scrum Master role invigorated her passion for empowering teams to successfully deliver quality software. As a trainer for Cardinal Solutions, Rita has the opportunity to work with Analysts in a variety of industries to bridge the gap between traditional and Agile roles and skill sets. Her commitment to lean agile principles has proven valuable in her role as an Lean Agile Transformation Coach, working with large organizations to realize the benefits and value of agility at scale. When Rita’s not working, Rita Emmons is a Board Member on Agile Cincinnati, Cincinnati’s regional Agile user group. She was on the team of organizers that planned and executed the inaugural AgileCincy2016 Conference. As a Junior Achievement Instructor, Rita shares her enthusiasm and life experience with children, teaching them the value in setting goals and shooting for the stars!

January Meeting: Projects? Where we're going, we don't need projects!

For years now our work life has focused on project delivery and the associated dates and deliverables to please internal customers, Agile allows us to focus on something more important; product delivery. Remember - the customer doesn’t know or care about our internal projects, they care about product and its arrival at their door.

The ability to change our entire delivery focus and ability is a game changer and should be seen as such. The chance to re-invent the wheel, if you will. In this talk, we’ll be discussing the options of the changes you need to make and how you can help your organization through this incredible change.

Robert Annis is the Training Services Director of Eliassen Group’s Agile Consultancy, Robert manages the training effort of the organization. This includes directing Agile coaches and trainers, creating training materials, managing training events and, of course, delivering training. Critically, he also defines the overall vision for the group. In his training role, he teaches many different classes for delivery teams and C-level Executive teams. Additionally, Robert is the lead Agile SME and instructor for Villanova University, focused on authoring and delivering high-quality courses to students as they grow their educational experience. With over a decade of traditional Project Management experience prior to transitioning to Agile, he brings a unique understanding of many organizations current situations and their difficulty in transitioning to Agile.
